Hadith 18070

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَائِشَةَ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَعَلَّكُمْ تَقْرَءُونَ وَالْإِمَامُ يَقْرَأُ " مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا . قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّا لَنَفْعَلُ . قَالَ : " فَلَا تَفْعَلُوا ، إِلَّا أَنْ يَقْرَأَ أَحَدُكُمْ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ " .
It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once said, "Perhaps you recite (Qur'an) during the recitation of the Imam?" He repeated this question two or three times, so the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! (peace and blessings be upon him) Indeed, we do so." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do not do so, except that one of you wishes to recite Surah Al-Fatihah."
