حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ ، عَن عِمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبِي أَنَسٍ ، عَن عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَن عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : لَمَّا بَعَثَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَامَ ذَاتِ السَّلَاسِلِ ، قَالَ : فَاحْتَلَمْتُ فِي لَيْلَةٍ بَارِدَةٍ شَدِيدَةِ الْبَرْدِ ، فَأَشْفَقْتُ إِنْ اغْتَسَلْتُ أَنْ أَهْلَكَ ، فَتَيَمَّمْتُ ثُمَّ صَلَّيْتُ بِأَصْحَابِي صَلَاةَ الصُّبْحِ . قَالَ : فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ " يَا عَمْرُو ، صَلَّيْتَ بِأَصْحَابِكَ وَأَنْتَ جُنُبٌ ؟ " قَالَ : قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي احْتَلَمْتُ فِي لَيْلَةٍ بَارِدَةٍ شَدِيدَةِ الْبَرْدِ ، فَأَشْفَقْتُ إِنْ اغْتَسَلْتُ أَنْ أَهْلَكَ ، وَذَكَرْتُ قَوْلَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : وَلا تَقْتُلُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِيمًا سورة النساء آية 29 فَتَيَمَّمْتُ ثُمَّ صَلَّيْتُ . فَضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَمْ يَقُلْ شَيْئًا .
It is narrated from Hazrat Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that when this incident was mentioned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Amr! Did you lead your companions in prayer while you were in a state of impurity?" I submitted, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! The night when ghusl became obligatory upon me, it was an extremely cold night and I feared that if I performed ghusl, I would perish. And I remembered the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: 'And do not kill yourselves. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful.' (وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِيمًا) So I performed tayammum and offered the prayer." Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled and did not say anything.
