حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ حَبِيْبِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي الْهُذَيْلِ ، قَالَ : كَانَ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ يَتَخَوَّلُنَا ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ : لَئِنْ لَمْ تَنْتَهِ قُرَيْشٌ ، لَيَضَعَنَّ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ فِي جُمْهُورٍ مِنْ جَمَاهِيرِ الْعَرَبِ سِوَاهُمْ . فَقَالَ : عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ كَذَبْتَ ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " قُرَيْشٌ وُلَاةُ النَّاسِ فِي الْخَيْرِ وَالشَّرِّ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ " .
Abdullah bin Abi Al-Hazil (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Hazrat Amr bin Al-Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) used to take care of us and look after us. Once, a man from the tribe of Bakr bin Wa'il said that if the people of Quraysh do not desist, the rule will slip from their hands and pass to the majority of the Arabs. Hazrat Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) heard this and said, "You are mistaken. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that the Quraysh will remain the leaders of the people in every good and bad matter until the Day of Judgment."
