It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Tha’labah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I participated in the Battle of Khaybar with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The people were hungry, and we came across some domesticated donkeys. We slaughtered them. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) found out, he ordered Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), who then announced among the people that for whoever testifies to my Prophethood, the meat of domesticated donkeys is not lawful. We found garlic and onions in the gardens there. Since the people were hungry, they took them out and began to eat. When they came to the mosque, the smell of garlic and onions had spread in the mosque. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever eats these foul vegetables should not come near us. The animal obtained through looting is not lawful, nor is any animal hunted by a predator with fangs, nor any animal that has been shot as a target.
