حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَيْفٌ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَدِيَّ بْنَ عَدِيٍّ الْكِنْدِيَّ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مَوْلًى لَنَا ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَدِيًّا ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَا يُعَذِّبُ الْعَامَّةَ بِعَمَلِ الْخَاصَّةِ ، حَتَّى يَرَوْا الْمُنْكَرَ بَيْنَ ظَهْرَانَيْهِمْ وَهُمْ قَادِرُونَ عَلَى أَنْ يُنْكِرُوهُ فَلَا يُنْكِرُوهُ ، فَإِذَا فَعَلُوا ذَلِكَ ، عَذَّبَ اللَّهُ الْخَاصَّةَ وَالْعَامَّةَ " . حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَدِيُّ بْنُ عَدِيٍّ ، عَنْ رَجَاءِ بْنِ حَيْوَةَ ، وَالْعُرْسِ ابْنِ عميرة ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَدِيٍّ ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ . قَالَ : جَرِيرٌ ، وَزَادَنِي أَيُّوبُ وَكُنَّا جَمِيعًا حِينَ سَمِعْنَا الْحَدِيثَ مِنْ عَدِيٍّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عَدِيٌّ وَحَدَّثَنَا الْعُرْسُ ابْنُ عَمِيرَةَ فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلا سورة آل عمران آية 77 إِلَى آخِرِهَا ، وَلَمْ أَحْفَظْهُ أَنَا يَوْمَئِذٍ مِنْ عَدِيٍّ.
Ibn Numayr narrated to us, Saif narrated to us, he said: I heard ‘Adi ibn ‘Adi al-Kindi narrating from Mujahid, he said: A mawla of ours narrated to me that he heard ‘Adi saying: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "Indeed, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, does not punish the general public for the actions of the elite, until they see the evil among them and they are able to denounce it but do not denounce it. If they do that, Allah punishes both the elite and the general public."
Yazid narrated to us, Jarir ibn Hazim narrated to us, he said: ‘Adi ibn ‘Adi narrated to me, from Raja’ ibn Haywah, and al-‘Urs ibn ‘Umayrah, from his father ‘Adi, and he mentioned the hadith. Jarir said: And Ayyub added for me, and we were all together when we heard the hadith from ‘Adi. He said: ‘Adi said, and al-‘Urs ibn ‘Umayrah narrated to us, so this verse was revealed: "Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price..." (Surat Al ‘Imran, verse 77) to its end, and I did not memorize it that day from ‘Adi.
