Hadith 17717

It is narrated from Hazrat Adi bin Umairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O people! Whoever among you is appointed to a task by us and he conceals from us even a thread or something less than that, it is a betrayal with which he will come on the Day of Resurrection. Upon hearing this, an Ansari of dark complexion stood up—he is still before my eyes—and said, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), please take back the responsibility you assigned to me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, What happened? He said, I heard you say this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then I now say that whoever we appoint to a responsibility should bring everything, whether little or much, to us. Then, whatever is given to him from it, he may take, and from whatever he is forbidden, he should refrain. The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain.
