حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ ، عَنْ ضَمْضَمِ بْنِ زُرْعَةَ ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ عُتْبَةُ يَقُولُ : " عِرْبَاضٌ خَيْرٌ مِنِّي " . وَعِرْبَاضٌ يَقُولُ : " عُتْبَةُ خَيْرٌ مِنِّي ، سَبَقَنِي إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِسَنَةٍ " .
Hazrat Utbah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say that Irbad (may Allah be pleased with him) is better than me, and Hazrat Irbad (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say that Utbah is better than me. He had presented himself in the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) one year before me.
