حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ، أَوْ حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ سَمِعَهُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ الْجُوْخَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : رُحْتُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَلَقِيَنِي عُتْبَةُ بْنُ عَبْدٍ الْمَازِنِيُّ ، فَقَالَ لِي : أَيْنَ تُرِيدُ ؟ فَقُلْتُ : إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ . فَقَالَ : أَبْشِرْ ، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ إِلَى غُدُوٍّ أَوْ رَوَاحٍ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ ، إِلَّا كَانَتْ خُطَاهُ خَطْوَةً كَفَّارَةً ، وَخَطْوَةً دَرَجَةً " .
Yazid bin Zaid, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once in the evening I was heading towards the mosque. On the way, I met Hazrat Utbah Mazni, may Allah be pleased with him. He asked me, "Where are you going?" I said, "I am going to the mosque." He said, "Receive glad tidings! I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever leaves his house in the morning or evening for the mosque, one of his steps erases a sin and the other raises him one degree."
