It is narrated from Hazrat Suraqah (may Allah be pleased with him): (Before my acceptance of Islam, at the time of migration) some messengers of the disbelievers of Quraysh came to us and informed that the Quraysh had announced a full blood money (one hundred camels) for whoever would martyr or capture the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him). I was sitting in the assembly of my tribe Banu Mudlij when a man came and stood before us and said, “O Suraqah! I have just seen some people going towards the coast; I think they are Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companion.” Suraqah says: I understood that these were the same people, but I told them, “These are not those people; you must have seen such and such persons who have just passed by here.” Then I sat in that assembly for a little while, after which I stood up and went home and ordered my slave girl to take my horse behind the hill and wait for me. Then I took my spear and left the house, drawing a line on the ground with my spear as I went until I reached my horse. I mounted it and made it run at full speed. I got so close to them that their bodies became visible to me. When I got so near to them that their voices could be heard, my horse stumbled and fell, and I also fell off it. I got up from the ground, took out arrows from my quiver, and started drawing lots to see whether I should harm them or not. The arrow came out which I disliked, i.e., not to harm them. But I ignored the result of the arrow and mounted my horse again. But the same thing happened the second time. The third time, when I got close and could hear the recitation of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was not looking right or left, but Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) kept looking around repeatedly. Then the front legs of my horse sank into the ground up to the knees, and I fell down. I scolded my horse and made it stand up; it did stand, but its legs could not come out. And when it stood upright, a cloud of smoke spread from there up to the sky. Once again, I drew lots with the arrows, and as before, the same arrow came out which I disliked, i.e., not to harm them. So I called out to both of them and assured them of my safety, and they stopped. I rode my horse and reached them. When this happened to me, it was at that very moment that the thought settled in my heart that the religion of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would surely prevail. So I submitted to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that your people have announced blood money for you, and I informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about all the spies and people searching for them. Then I offered them provisions and travel supplies, but they did not take anything from me and only asked me to keep all these matters secret regarding them. I requested the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to write a letter of protection for me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Hazrat Amir bin Fuhayrah, and he wrote a letter of protection for me on a piece of leather. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued on his journey.
