حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ : عَبْد اللَّهِ ، وَسَمِعْتُهُ أَنَا مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حَفْصٍ ، عن يَعْلَى بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ عِنْدَ زِيَادٍ جَالِسَا ، فَأُتِيَ بِرَجُلٍ شَهِدَ فَغَيَّرَ شَهَادَتَهُ ، فَقَالَ : لَأَقْطَعَنَّ لِسَانَكَ . فَقَالَ لَهُ يَعْلَى : أَلَا أُحَدِّثُكَ حَدِيثًا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : لَا تُمَثِّلُوا بِعِبَادِي " . قَالَ : فَتَرَكَهُ.
It is narrated regarding Hazrat Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he was sitting with Ziyad. A man was brought to Ziyad who had given some testimony. Ziyad altered his testimony and said, "I will cut off your tongue." Upon hearing this, Hazrat Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Shall I not tell you a hadith I heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that Allah Almighty says: 'Do not mutilate My servants.'" Upon this, Ziyad let him go.
