حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَعْرَجُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عُمَيْرًا مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : أَقْبَلْتُ أَنَا وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَسَارٍ مَوْلَى مَيْمُونَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، دَخَلْنَا عَلَى أَبِي جُهَيْمِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الصِّمَّةِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، قَالَ أَبُو جُهَيْمٍ : " أَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ نَحْوِ بِئْرِ جَمَلٍ ، فَلَقِيَهُ رَجُلٌ ، فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ ، فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى أَقْبَلَ عَلَى الْجِدَارِ ، فَمَسَحَ بِوَجْهِهِ وَيَدَيْهِ ، ثُمَّ رَدَّ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
Umair, who was the freed slave of Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), says that I and Abdullah bin Yasar, who was the freed slave of Hazrat Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), went to Hazrat Abu Juham bin Harith (may Allah be pleased with him). He said that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was coming from the direction of Bir Jamal when he met a man on the way. The man greeted him with salam, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not reply. Instead, he turned towards a wall, performed tayammum on his face and hands with it, and then replied to his salam.
