It is narrated from Hazrat Abdul Muttalib bin Rabee’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he and Fadl presented themselves before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) so that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would arrange their marriages and appoint them to collect zakat so that they too might receive something. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that these charities are the impurities of people’s wealth, therefore they are not lawful for Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Mahmiya Zubaidi to marry his daughter to Fadl, and to Nafool bin Harith to marry his daughter to Abdul Muttalib bin Rabee’ah. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Mahmiya, whom he had appointed over the khums, to give them enough money from the khums so that they could pay the dowry. And at the beginning of this hadith, it is also detailed that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) met both of them and said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would never appoint them to collect zakat. They replied that this was his jealousy. He said, “I am Abu Hasan, my opinion is preferred, and I will not return until I see what answer the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gives you.” So when both of them spoke to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent, and Hazrat Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) began to shake her garment, signaling that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would fulfill their request.
