حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَلَاذٍ ، عن نُمَيْرِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ مَسْرُوحٍ ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ أَبِي عَامِرٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ ، عن أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " نِعْمَ الْحَيُّ الْأَسَدُ ، وَالْأَشْعَرِيُّونَ ، لَا يَفِرُّونَ فِي الْقِتَالِ وَلَا يَغُلُّونَ ، هُمْ مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُمْ " . قَالَ عَامِرٌ : فَحَدَّثْتُ بِهِ مُعَاوِيَةَ ، فَقَالَ : لَيْسَ هَكَذَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، إِنَّمَا قَالَ : " هُمْ مِنِّي وَإِلَيَّ " . فَقُلْتُ : لَيْسَ هَكَذَا حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَلَكِنَّهُ قَالَ : " هُمْ مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُمْ " . قَالَ : فَأَنْتَ إِذًا أَعْلَمُ بِحَدِيثِ أَبِيكَ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Amir Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Banu Asad and Ash'ariyyin are the best tribes; they do not flee from the battlefield nor do they commit treachery. They are from me and I am from them. Hazrat Abu Amir's son, Amir, says that I narrated this hadith to Hazrat Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), so he said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say "wa ana minhum" after "hum minni" but rather said "wali". Amir said that my father did not narrate it like that, rather he said "wa ana minhum". So Hazrat Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: You would know your father's hadith better.
