حَدِيثُ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَHadith of a man from the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him)
Hadith 17470

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " سَتُفْتَحُ عَلَيْكُمْ الشَّامُ ، فَإِذَا خُيِّرْتُمْ الْمَنَازِلَ فِيهَا ، فَعَلَيْكُمْ بِمَدِينَةٍ يُقَالُ لَهَا : دِمَشْقُ ، فَإِنَّهَا مَعْقِلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ مِنَ الْمَلَاحِمِ ، وَفُسْطَاطُهَا مِنْهَا بِأَرْضٍ يُقَالُ لَهَا : الْغُوطَةُ " .
It is narrated from multiple Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Soon, Syria will be conquered at your hands. When you are given the choice to settle at any place there, choose the city called Damascus, for it will be the refuge of Muslims during times of war, and its tent (center) will be in the area called Ghouta.
