Hadith 17447

حَدَّثَنَا يحيي بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عَلْقَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنِي مَوْلًى لِعُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِعُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ : إِنَّ لَنَا جِيرَانًا يَشْرَبُونَ الْخَمْرَ ، قَالَ : اسْتُرْ عَلَيْهِمْ ، قَالَ : مَا أَسْتُرُ عَلَيْهِمْ ! أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَذْهَبَ أَجِيءَ بِالشُّرَطِ عَلَيْهِمْ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ لَهُ عُقْبَةُ : وَيْحَكَ ، مَهْلًا عَلَيْهِمْ ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " مَنْ رَأَى عَوْرَةً فَسَتَرَهَا ، كَانَ كَمَنْ اسْتَحْيَا مَوْءُودَةً مِنْ قَبْرِهَا " .
Dukhain, who was the scribe of Hazrat Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates that once I said to Hazrat Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) that our neighbors drink alcohol, I am going to call the police so that they may come and arrest them. Hazrat Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, do not do so, rather advise them and warn them. The scribe did so, but they did not desist. So Dukhain again came to Hazrat Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, I forbade them but they did not desist, and now I will surely call the police. Hazrat Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, Alas! Do not do so, because I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that whoever conceals the faults of a Muslim, it is as if he saves a girl buried alive.
