حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ دُخَيْنٍ الْحَجْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقْبَلَ إِلَيْهِ رَهْطٌ ، فَبَايَعَ تِسْعَةً وَأَمْسَكَ عَنْ وَاحِدٍ ، فَقَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، بَايَعْتَ تِسْعَةً وَتَرَكْتَ هَذَا ؟ ! قَالَ : " إِنَّ عَلَيْهِ تَمِيمَةً " ، فَأَدْخَلَ يَدَهُ فَقَطَعَهَا ، فَبَايَعَهُ ، وَقَالَ : " مَنْ عَلَّقَ تَمِيمَةً فَقَدْ أَشْرَكَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Uqbah bin Aamir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a delegation (of ten men) came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted the allegiance of nine of them and withheld his hand from one. They asked, "O Messenger of Allah! (peace and blessings be upon him) You accepted the allegiance of nine and left this person?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "He is wearing an amulet." Upon hearing this, he put his hand into his collar and tore the amulet into pieces. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted his allegiance as well and said, "Whoever hangs an amulet commits shirk (associating partners with Allah)."
