حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ بَحِيرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ ، عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْجَاهِرُ بِالْقُرْآنِ كَالْجَاهِرِ بِالصَّدَقَةِ ، وَالْمُسِرُّ بِالْقُرْآنِ كَالْمُسِرِّ بِالصَّدَقَةِ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ : قَالَ أَبِي : كَانَ حَمَّادُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ حَافِظًا ، وَكَانَ يُحَدِّثُنَا ، وَكَانَ يَحْفَظُ ، كَتَبْتُ عَنْهُ أَنَا وَيَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The one who recites the Qur'an aloud is like one who gives charity openly, and the one who recites the Qur'an quietly is like one who gives charity secretly. Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Hamd bin Khalid was a memorizer of hadith; he used to teach us hadith and also worked as a tailor. Both I and Yahya bin Ma'in have written hadiths from him.
