Hadith 17313

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، عَنْ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ أَنْسَابَكُمْ هَذِهِ لَيْسَتْ بِسِبَابٍ عَلَى أَحَدٍ ، وَإِنَّمَا أَنْتُمْ وَلَدُ آدَمَ ، طَفُّ الصَّاعِ لَمْ تَمْلَئُوهُ ، لَيْسَ لِأَحَدٍ فَضْلٌ إِلَّا بِالدِّينِ أَوْ عَمَلٍ صَالِحٍ ، حَسْبُ الرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَكُونَ فَاحِشًا بَذِيًّا ، بَخِيلًا جَبَانًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These genealogies of yours are not a cause for fault or reproach for anyone. You are all the children of Adam and are close to one another. No one has any superiority over another except by religion or righteous deeds. It is sufficient for a person to be considered immoral if he is foul-mouthed, miserly, and cowardly."
