Hadith 17307

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْمُبَارَكِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْخَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَامِرٍ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ مَثَلَ الَّذِي يَعْمَلُ السَّيِّئَاتِ ، ثُمَّ يَعْمَلُ الْحَسَنَاتِ ، كَمَثَلِ رَجُلٍ كَانَتْ عَلَيْهِ دِرْعٌ ضَيِّقَةٌ قَدْ خَنَقَتْهُ ، ثُمَّ عَمِلَ حَسَنَةً ، فَانْفَكَّتْ حَلْقَةٌ ، ثُمَّ عَمِلَ حَسَنَةً أُخْرَى ، فَانْفَكَّتْ حَلْقَةٌ أُخْرَى ، حَتَّى يَخْرُجَ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Uqbah bin Aamir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever commits a sin and then starts doing good deeds, his example is like that of a person who is wearing such a tight shirt that it is choking his neck. Then he performs a good deed and one of its loops opens, then he does another good deed and the second loop also opens, until he becomes free from it and comes out onto the earth.
