Hadith 1729

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الثَّقَفِيُّ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ ، أَنَّ الْحَسَنَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ , وَابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ : " رَأَيَا جَنَازَةً ، فَقَامَ أَحَدُهُمَا وَقَعَدَ الْآخَرُ ، فَقَالَ الَّذِي قَامَ : أَلَمْ يَقُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَقَالَ الَّذِي قَعَدَ : بَلَى ، وَقَعَدَ .
Muhammad says that it has reached me that once a funeral procession passed in front of Sayyiduna Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) remained seated. Sayyiduna Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Did you not see that when a funeral procession passed by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he stood up? He (Ibn Abbas) said: Of course, but later the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) started remaining seated.
