Hadith 17264

حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَصِينٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ ، قَالَ : " نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ تُسْتَأْجَرَ الْأَرْضُ بِالدَّرَاهِمِ الْمَنْقُودَةِ ، أَوْ بِالثُّلُثِ ، وَالرُّبُعِ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade hufl. The narrator asked, “What is meant by hufl?” He replied, “To give land on sharecropping for a third or a fourth of the produce.” Upon hearing this hadith, Ibrahim also gave a verdict regarding its dislike, and did not consider it objectionable to take land in exchange for dirhams.
