Hadith 1726

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَهُوَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ , أَنْبَأَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، قَالَ : " نُبِّئْتُ أَنَّ جِنَازَةً مَرَّتْ عَلَى الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ، وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، فَقَامَ الْحَسَنُ ، وَقَعَدَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، فَقَالَ الْحَسَنُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ : أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّتْ بِهِ جِنَازَةٌ فَقَامَ ؟ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : بَلَى ، وَقَدْ جَلَسَ ، فَلَمْ يُنْكِرْ الْحَسَنُ مَا قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا " .
Muhammad says that it has reached me that once a funeral passed by in front of Sayyiduna Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) remained seated. Sayyiduna Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Did you not see that when a funeral passed by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he stood up? He said: Why not, but later the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) started remaining seated. Upon this, Sayyiduna Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) did not object.
