Hadith 1722

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، أَنْبَأَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ أَرْطَاةَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ , أَنَّهُ مَرَّ بِهِمْ جَنَازَةٌ ، فَقَامَ الْقَوْمُ وَلَمْ يَقُمْ ، فَقَالَ الْحَسَنُ : مَا صَنَعْتُمْ ؟ إِنَّمَا " قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَأَذِّيًا بِرِيحِ الْيَهُودِيِّ " .
Muhammad bin Ali says that once a funeral passed by, people stood up but Sayyiduna Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) did not stand up, and said: "What are you doing? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) only used to stand up because he was troubled by the stench of that Jew whose funeral was passing by."
