It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Irbaad (may Allah be pleased with him) that sometimes the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would pick up a single hair from the spoils of war and say: “My share in this is equal to that of any one of you, except for the khums (one-fifth), and that too is returned to you. Therefore, if it is a thread, a needle, or even something less than that, return it, and avoid dishonesty in the spoils of war, for indeed it will be a cause of shame and regret for the dishonest person on the Day of Resurrection.”
