Hadith 1708

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the Day of Resurrection, Allah Almighty will call the debtor and make him stand before Him and will ask: 'O servant! After taking loans from people, where did you squander their wealth?' He will reply: 'O Lord! You know that I took it, but I neither ate it nor drank it, nor did I wear it, nor did I waste it in vain. Rather, it was lost by drowning in the sea, burning, being stolen, or in the payment of taxes.' Upon hearing this, Allah Almighty will say: 'My servant has spoken the truth. I am more deserving to pay your debt on your behalf today.' Then Allah Almighty will command something to be brought and placed in his scale of deeds, causing the side of his good deeds to become heavy and tilt downwards, and by the grace of Allah, he will enter Paradise."
