Hadith 16966

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Yazid bin Akhnas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There is no permission for rivalry except between two men: one is the man whom Allah Almighty has granted the wealth of the Qur'an, and he recites it day and night and follows its commands, and another man sees him and says, 'If only Allah had granted me this blessing, I would also recite it day and night in the same way.' And the second is the man whom Allah Almighty has granted wealth and he spends it in charity and good deeds, and another man sees him and says, 'If only Allah had granted me wealth as He has given to so-and-so, I would also spend it in charity in the same way.'" A man asked, "O Messenger of Allah! If a person has personal nobility..." The son of Imam Ahmad says that the remaining part of the hadith is missing; I found this hadith in my father's manuscript, which was written in his own hand.
