It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Muslim granted protection to a person. At that time, the commander of the army was Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid and Sayyiduna Amr bin Al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) were of the opinion that protection should not be granted to him, but Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that we will grant him protection, because I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "Any person can grant protection to any person on behalf of the Muslims."
