Hadith 16914

حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي التَّيَّاحِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ حُمْرَانَ بْنَ أَبَانَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ ، أَنَّهُ رَأَى أُنَاسًا يُصَلُّونَ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّكُمْ لَتُصَلُّونَ صَلَاةً قَدْ صَحِبْنَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَمَا رَأَيْنَاهُ يُصَلِّيهَا ، وَلَقَدْ نَهَى عَنْهَا ، يَعْنِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that you people perform such a prayer that, despite being in the company of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we never saw him performing this prayer; rather, he used to forbid it. What is meant are the two (nafl) rak‘ahs after ‘Asr, which he saw some people performing.
