Hadith 16908

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَر ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي التَّيَّاحِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ حُمْرَانَ بْنَ أَبَانَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قَالَ : إِنَّكُمْ لَتُصَلُّونَ صَلَاةً لَقَدْ صَحِبْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَمَا رَأَيْنَاهُ يُصَلِّيهَا ، وَلَقَدْ نَهَى عَنْهُمَا ، يَعْنِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that you people perform such a prayer that, despite the companionship of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we did not see him performing this prayer; rather, he used to forbid it. What is meant are the two (nafl) rak‘ahs after ‘Asr (which he saw some people performing).
