حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ يَقُولُ عَلَى هَذَا الْمِنْبَرِ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ مَا بَقِيَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا بَلَاءٌ وَفِتْنَةٌ ، وَإِنَّمَا مَثَلُ عَمَلِ أَحَدِكُمْ كَمَثَلِ الْوِعَاءِ ، إِذَا طَابَ أَعْلَاهُ ، طَابَ أَسْفَلُهُ ، وَإِذَا خَبُثَ أَعْلَاهُ خَبُثَ أَسْفَلُهُ "
Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) once said from the pulpit: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say, "Only trials and tests remain in this world, and your deeds are like a vessel: if its upper part is good, this is a sign that its lower part is also good, and if the upper part is bad, then its lower part will also be bad."
