قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ : وَجَدْتُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ فِي كِتَابِ أَبِي بِخَطِّ يَدِهِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ وَهُوَ البُرْسَانِي ، قَالَ : أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَنَّ عِيسَى بْنَ عُمَرَ أَخْبَرَهُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَقَّاصٍ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَقَّاصٍ ، قَالَ : إِنِّي لَعِنْدَ مُعَاوِيَةَ إِذْ أَذَّنَ مُؤَذِّنُهُ ، فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ : كَمَا قَالَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ ، حَتَّى إِذَا قَالَ : حَيَّ عَلَى الصَّلَاةِ ، قَالَ : " لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ " ، فَلَمَّا قَالَ : حَيَّ عَلَى الْفَلَاحِ ، قَالَ : " لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ " ، وَقَالَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ مَا قَالَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ذَلِكَ
Alqamah bin Waqas (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once I was with Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) when the muezzin began to give the adhan. Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) also began to repeat the same words. When he said "Hayya 'ala-s-Salah," he replied, "La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah." In response to "Hayya 'ala-l-Falah," he said the same. After that, he continued to repeat the words of the muezzin. Then he said, "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying the same."
