Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that on the day of the Battle of Badr, I was standing in the ranks of the warriors. I looked to my right and left and saw two young boys standing on either side of me. I thought to myself, "How good it would be if I were between two brave men!" Meanwhile, one of them pinched me and said, "Uncle! Do you recognize Abu Jahl?" I said, "Yes! But nephew, what do you have to do with him?" He said, "I have heard that he insults the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). By Allah! If I see him, I will not leave him until one of us dies." I was amazed at his words, and while I was still amazed, the other one pinched me and said the same thing to me. After a short while, I saw Abu Jahl moving among the people. I said to both of them, "That is the man you were asking me about." As soon as they heard this, both of them rushed at him with their swords until they killed him, and then returned and informed the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) of it. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, "Which of you killed him?" Each of them said, "I killed him." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, "Have you cleaned your swords?" They said, "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) looked at them and said, "Both of you killed him," and he decided that the belongings of Abu Jahl would go to Mu'adh bin Amr bin al-Jamuh. The names of those two boys were Mu'adh bin Amr bin al-Jamuh and Mu'adh bin 'Afra.
