An Ansari companion (may Allah be pleased with him), who was assigned to take care of the she-camel, says that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him somewhere. I went a little distance and then returned and submitted: O Messenger of Allah! If a camel is about to die, what do you command? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Slaughter it, then soak its hooves in its blood and place them on its forehead or its side, and neither you nor any of your companions should eat from it.
