It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Qari (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) set out towards Hunain, he left Sayyiduna Sa’d behind due to illness. When he returned after performing ‘Umrah from Ji’ranah and went to him, he found him exhausted due to the severity of his pain. He (Sa’d) said, “O Messenger of Allah! I have wealth, and among my heirs there is only kalalah (those who inherit in the absence of direct descendants or ascendants). Should I make a will regarding all my wealth or give it in charity?” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “No.” He asked about making a will for two-thirds of his wealth; the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) again said, “No.” He asked about half; the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) again forbade it. He then asked about one-third; the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Yes, and one-third is still much.” Then Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “O Messenger of Allah! Will I die in this land from which I migrated?” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “I hope that Allah will grant you elevation, and because of you, many will be humbled and many will be honored. O Amr bin Qari! If Sa’d passes away after me, then bury him here.” And saying this, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) pointed with his hand towards the road leading to Madinah Munawwarah.
