It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the occasion of the Battle of Hunayn, when Allah Almighty granted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) the spoils of war, he distributed them among those whose hearts were to be reconciled, and did not give anything from it to the Ansar. Apparently, the Ansar felt that they did not receive what others had been given. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) learned of this, he addressed them and said: "O group of Ansar! Did I not find you astray, and Allah enriched you through me?" In response to all these words, the Ansar kept saying only this: "The great favor is from Allah and His Messenger." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is the matter, do you not answer me?" They again said: "The great favor is from Allah and His Messenger." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you wished, you could have said that you came to us in such and such a state, etc. Are you not pleased that people take away sheep and camels, and you return to your tents with the Messenger of Allah? If there had been no migration, I would have been one of the Ansar. If people walk on one path, I will walk on the path of the Ansar. The Ansar are the inner garment of my body, and the rest of the people are the outer garment. And after me, you will see preferences given to others, so at that time, be patient until you meet me at the Pond."
