Yahya says that during the incident of Harrah, a person said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him), "Come! Let us go to Ibn Hanzalah, who is taking allegiance from the people." He asked, "On what is he taking allegiance?" It was said, "On death." He replied, "After the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I cannot pledge allegiance to anyone on this."
