(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدٌ الْجُرَيْرِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، اجْعَلْنِي إِمَامَ قَوْمِي . قَالَ : " أَنْتَ إِمَامُهُمْ ، وَاقْتَدِ بِأَضْعَفِهِمْ ، وَاتَّخِذْ مُؤَذِّنًا لَا يَأْخُذُ عَلَى أَذَانِهِ أَجْرًا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman that I once submitted in the court of the Messenger: O Messenger of Allah! Appoint me as the imam of my people. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: You are the imam of your people. Lead the prayer considering the weakest among them, and appoint a muezzin who does not take any wage for his call to prayer.
