Abu Siba’ says that once I bought a she-camel from the house of Sayyiduna Wathilah. When I was about to leave with the she-camel, I met Sayyiduna Wathilah. He was coming, pulling his cloak. He asked me, “O servant of Allah, have you bought it?” I said, “Yes.” He asked, “Did they tell you everything about it?” I said, “What do you mean by everything?” He said, “This one that appears healthy and strong—tell me, do you want to travel on it or slaughter it for meat?” I said, “I want to go for Hajj on it.” He said, “Then know that there is a hole in its hoof.” At this, the owner of the she-camel said, “May Allah have mercy on your condition! Do you want to ruin my deal?” He replied, “I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say: ‘It is not permissible for a man to sell something without disclosing its defect, and it is not lawful for one who knows of the defect not to mention it.’”
