Sayyiduna Abu Muwayhibah, who was a freed slave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), says that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) received the command to pray for the people of Baqi’. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for them three times in one night. On the second night, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Abu Muwayhibah, saddle my mount for me." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mounted, and I walked on foot until we reached Jannat al-Baqi’. Upon arrival, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) dismounted, I held the rope of the mount, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood by their graves and said: "Congratulations to you for the blessings you are in, having been spared from the conditions of the people. Trials are descending like the dark portions of the night, coming one after another, and each subsequent one is harsher than the previous. So congratulations to you for the blessings you are in." After this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned and said: "I have been given the choice: either the keys to the conquests my Ummah will achieve after me and Paradise, or to meet my Lord." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! May my parents be sacrificed for you, please tell us about your preference." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After me, my Ummah will do whatever Allah wills, so I have chosen to meet my Lord." Thus, seven or eight days after this incident, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away.
