It is narrated from Sayyiduna Harith bin Amr that during the Farewell Pilgrimage, I met the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! May my father be sacrificed for you, please pray for my forgiveness. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: May Allah forgive all of you. At that time, the Prophet (peace be upon him) was riding a she-camel named Adhba. I went around to the other side hoping that perhaps the Prophet (peace be upon him) would pray specifically for me, and again I requested: Please pray for my forgiveness. The Prophet (peace be upon him) again said: May Allah forgive all of you. Meanwhile, a man asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is the ruling on slaughtering the first offspring of an animal or offering a sacrifice in the month of Rajab? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Whoever wishes to slaughter the first offspring of an animal may do so, and whoever does not wish to, may refrain. Similarly, whoever wishes to offer a sacrifice in the month of Rajab may do so, and whoever does not wish to, may refrain. However, sacrifice can also be done with a goat. Then he said: Remember, your lives and wealth are as sacred to each other as the sanctity of this day in this city.
