(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , قَالَ : " الشَّهْرُ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا " , عَشْرٌ ، وَعَشْرٌ ، وَتِسْعٌ مَرَّةً .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sometimes the month is like this and like this." The third time, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) folded one finger out of the ten fingers of his hands (meaning that the month can be twenty-nine (29) days).
