It is narrated from Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I submitted in the presence of the Messenger: O Messenger of Allah! Yesterday we encountered the enemy with our animals, while we had no knife with us. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whatever causes the animal's blood to flow, apart from teeth and nails, and Allah's name is mentioned over it, you may eat from it. And let me tell you the reason: the tooth is a bone, and the nail is the knife of the Abyssinians. Meanwhile, some camels were received as spoils of war by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and one of the camels ran away. People tried hard to catch it but could not succeed. Finally, a man aimed and shot an arrow at it, and thus brought it under control. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sometimes these animals also become wild like wild animals. When you are unable to overpower an animal, then do with it as you did now.
