(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَتْ أُمُّ مُبَشِّرٍ لِكَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ وَهُوَ شَاكٍ : اقْرَأْ عَلَى ابْنِي السَّلَامَ ، تَعْنِي مُبَشِّرًا ، فَقَالَ : يَغْفِرُ اللَّهُ لَكِ يَا أُمَّ مُبَشِّرٍ ، أَوَلَمْ تَسْمَعِي مَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّمَا نَسَمَةُ الْمُسْلِمِ طَيْرٌ تَعْلُقُ فِي شَجَرِ الْجَنَّةِ حَتَّى يُرْجِعَهَا اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِلَى جَسَدِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " . قَالَتْ : صَدَقْتَ ، فَأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ .
Abdur Rahman bin Ka'b says that once Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) fell ill, so Umm Mubashir said to him, "Convey my greetings to my son Mubashir when you meet him after death." He replied, "Umm Mubashir, may Allah forgive you, did you not hear the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that the soul of a Muslim remains in the form of birds on the trees of Paradise until the Day of Resurrection, when Allah will return it to its body?" Upon this, Umm Mubashir said, "You have spoken the truth; I seek forgiveness from Allah."
