Hadith 15719

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’ib bin Yazid that during the blessed era of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and during the era of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, and the early period of Sayyiduna Umar, when a drunkard was brought, we would stand and beat him with our hands, shoes, and cloaks. Later, Sayyiduna Umar ordered that a drunkard be given forty lashes, and when people became rebellious and indulged in wickedness, he set the punishment at eighty lashes.
