It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umm Maktum that once the Prophet (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet’s Mosque and the number of people was few. Upon this, he said: My heart desires that I appoint a man to lead the people in prayer, and I myself go out; and whoever I see praying at home, I set his house on fire. Hearing this, Sayyiduna Ibn Umm Maktum said: O Messenger of Allah! There is a garden and trees between my house and the Prophet’s Mosque, and I do not always have a guide available at every moment. Do you permit me to pray at home? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Do you hear the call to prayer? He replied: Yes. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Then you should come for the prayer.
