Hadith 15335

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّ هِشَامَ بْنَ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ ، وَجَدَ عِيَاضَ بْنَ غَنْمٍ وَهُوَ عَلَى حِمْصَ يُشَمِّسُ نَاسًا مِنَ النَّبَطِ فِي أَدَاءِ الْجِزْيَةِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ هِشَامٌ : مَا هَذَا يَا عِيَاضُ ؟ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى يُعَذِّبُ الَّذِينَ يُعَذِّبُونَ النَّاسَ فِي الدُّنْيَا " .
Once, in the land of al-Sham, Sayyiduna Ibn Hazam passed by some dhimmis who had been made to stand in the sun. He asked, "What is the matter with these people?" The people replied, "They owe some taxes." (Because they were unable to pay, they were being punished in this way.) He said, "Iyad, what is this?" I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Allah Almighty will punish those who punish people on the Day of Resurrection.
