It is narrated from Sayyiduna Safwan bin Umayyah that someone said to him that whoever does not migrate is ruined. Upon hearing this, I said, "I will not go to my home until I first meet the Prophet (peace be upon him)." So I mounted my ride and presented myself before the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Some people are saying that whoever has not migrated is ruined." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "O Abu Wahb, there is absolutely no such thing. Go back to the plain of Makkah." While I was sleeping in the Prophet's Mosque, a thief came and took the cloth from under my head and left. I chased him, caught him, and presented him before the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: "This person has stolen my cloth." The Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered his hand to be cut off. I said: "O Messenger of Allah! That was not my intention; this cloth is charity for him." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Why did you not give it in charity before bringing him to me?"
