Ibn Muammar says that once ‘Amir bin Sa’d narrated this hadith to ‘Umar bin ‘Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him)—while he was the governor of Madinah—from his father, Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever in the morning, on an empty stomach, eats seven ‘ajwah dates from anywhere between the two sides of Madinah, nothing will harm him that day until evening.” The narrator thinks that he also said: “And if he eats them in the evening, nothing will harm him until morning.” ‘Umar bin ‘Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “Amir! Think carefully about what hadith you are narrating from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)!” He said: “I bear witness that I am not lying about Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him), and that Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) did not lie about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).”
