Hadith 15213

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ , حَدَّثَنَا سَلِيمُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ , حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مِينَاءَ , عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ , قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَثَلِي وَمَثَلُكُمْ , كَمَثَلِ رَجُلٍ أَوْقَدَ نَارًا , فَجَعَلَ الْفَرَاشُ وَالْجَنَادِبُ يَقَعْنَ فِيهَا , وَهُوَ يَذُبُّهُنَّ عَنْهَا , وَأَنَا آخِذٌ بِحُجَزِكُمْ عَنِ النَّارِ , وَأَنْتُمْ تَفَلَّتُونَ مِنْ يَدِي " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: My example and your example is like that of a person who kindles a fire and moths and butterflies begin to fall into it from here and there, and he keeps them away from it. In the same way, I am holding you by your waist to save you from Hell, but you are slipping away from my hands.
