Hadith 1514

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، أَنْبَأَنَا لَيْثٌ ، حَدَّثَنِي عُقَيْلٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ , أَخْبَرَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ , أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سَعْدَ بْنَ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ، قَالَ : أَرَادَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ أَنْ يَتَبَتَّلَ ، فَنَهَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَوْ أَجَازَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ ، لَاخْتَصَيْنَا .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) wished to adopt seclusion, but the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not permit him to do so. If the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had permitted him in this matter, then we too would have at least castrated ourselves.
